Law of Attraction

Find Your Dream Job Using the Law of Attraction

If you’re working at a job you don’t love, or even one you hate, or maybe you’re unemployed at the moment, this post is for you! You can use the law of attraction to identify and manifest your dream job and transform your life with these easy and free tools.

My story: How I went from a job I hated to a job I loved

About six years ago I was working nonstop at a job that I hated. I didn’t enjoy the work, the hours were untenable, and the stress was making me anxious and depressed. It got to the point where I dreaded Sunday evenings, knowing I would have to go in to the office the next morning.

I desperately wanted a different job, but I had no idea what I could do. I had trained for a specific profession that it turned out I didn’t care for at all, and now felt stuck. To make things worse, although my annual review went well, I received notice that I was going to be let go.

Commence the panicking!

I’ll save you the stress and jump right to the end: before my final day at my previous employer, I was able to find and secure a new position that I loved. The transition ended up being so seamless and easy, I was never even unemployed.

Here I’ll share the tools that I used to identify and secure my dream job and I hope that they’ll help you too!

First things first: Figure out what you want

The first thing you’ll need to do to manifest your dream job is to figure out what you want. If you know specifically what kind of job you want to have, this makes things a lot easier. But even if you don’t know the specific title of the job you may want, you can still identify the feelings you’ll experience when you have your dream job.

Think about the following categories and how you might experience each if you were to have your dream job today:

  • Work environment
    • What is your work environment like? Do you work indoors or outside? Do you have a traditional office environment, or is it more relaxed?
  • Colleagues
    • What kind of colleagues will you work with in your dream job? Will you work closely with them or will you be more independent? What will your relationship be like with your colleagues? Will you make close friends that you can go to happy hour with afterwards, or will they be people that you enjoy working with but you keep your work and outside life separate?
  • Location
    • Where do you want to work? Is there a specific city or location that you have always wanted to work in?
  • Commute (if any)
    • What will your commute be like with your dream job? Will you live close by, or commute via car or public transportation? Will you work from home?
  • Hours
    • What hours would you have with your dream job? Will you be working standard office hours or will you make your own schedule? How many hours a work will you expect to be on the job? Will you have to work after hours as well?
  • Pay and benefits
    • What is your ideal salary or pay structure for your position? How much and how often will you be compensated? What kind of benefits are available to you?
  • Day-to-day experiences
    • What will your day-to-day work life be like? Will it be very similar every day or will it change? Will you interact with many people or mostly colleagues? What is your stress level like? Is the job fast-paced or more relaxed?
  • Any other significant factors
    • Are there any other factors that would make or break a job for you? What are they? How would they appear in your dream job?

Second: Remove existing and hidden blocks

Now that you’ve identified what you want in your dream job, it’s important to assess whether you have any blocks or limiting beliefs and eliminate them. Remember, the law of attraction doesn’t act on what you want to have, it acts on what you believe you can have. This means that if you have a job in mind that you think would be your dream job, but you also think “I would never get that job, I’m not qualified” then guess what? You’re not getting that job.

You can start to identify limiting beliefs and blocks by assessing your feelings as you go through the questions above. Notice when you feel doubtful, insecure, or uncomfortable imagining yourself in your dream job. This signifies resistance that you’ll need to work through before you can move to the next step.

If you’re new to releasing resistance, check out my other post which has more detailed information on clearing processes.

Third: Get into the feeling-place of having your dream job

Now that you’ve identified various aspects about your dream job and cleared your limiting beliefs, it’s time to get to the feeling-place of what it will be like to work there.

Again, you do not need to have a specific position, title, or employer in mind. In fact, it might be a little easier if you don’t–this way the universe can deliver exactly what you want.

To get to the feeling-place, it’s important to start with as clean a slate as possible. This is especially true if you’re feeling desperate, as this can throw off your vibrations. If you need to raise your vibration, consider a brief meditation before doing any visualizations or affirmations. My previous post about meditation can walk you through this process if you’re new.

When you’re ready, you can use any process you prefer to get to the feeling of having your new job, including:

  • Visualizations
  • Affirmations
  • Vision boards
  • Scripting

When I was searching for my new job, I used scripting and visualization together to get to my feeling place. For example, I would describe what it was like to work in my new position, how I interacted with colleagues and clients, what my hours and salary were, and what my time off might look like.

I would script and visualize every day for up to 10 minutes a day and really savor the feeling of having my dream job. I also created a mini vision board once I found the job of my dreams and applied. The vision board included my photo, my employer and title, my salary, and other important aspects of the job.

Fourth: Take inspired action

Okay, so hopefully if you’ve read my other posts about the law of attraction, you know there’s more to it than wishing and hoping! You have to do something too! Now, you might have been reading this thinking that your dream job is to win the lottery and retire early. Sorry, but this is not the post for you. I have more thoughts on that, but I’ll save it for another post . . .

The idea behind this post is that you have unique and useful skills and talents that the universe wants to reward! The universe can help you align your natural abilities with our society by finding the right job for you where you can excel and enjoy your work. Yes, I said enjoy your work. I have a job that I love and I fully believe that is possible for you, too.

Now that that’s out of the way, the next thing you’re going to want to do is to take inspired action. If you’ve gotten to the feeling-place of having your dream job, you want to be especially mindful of new ideas or suggestions that come to you because the universe is working for you now. The universe is prepared to deliver your job to you, but you may need to be open-minded about when, where and how.

In addition to looking out for specific suggestions from the universe (maybe you get a call from a friend about a position in their office, or you see an ad for a company in a different city), you’ll want to prepare for actually applying to this dream job. This probably includes looking at open job postings, preparing or revising your resume and cover letter, networking, interviewing, and doing all of the other things you would normally do to get a job.

In my case, I reached out to my school’s career counselors to get some guidance on what I might do next. During the meeting, the advisor informed me of a job he thought I might be interested in–which I never would have heard about had it not been for our meeting. Naturally, this turned out to be my dream job!

I went ahead and applied to the job using the regular process, but I also continued with my visualizations, scripting, and vision board. Now that I had a specific job and employer in mind, I was able to fine-tune my manifestations for this position. Soon after completing the application process, I went on a couple of interviews and secured the job! I’ve been working there ever since, and am thrilled about how the universe absolutely delivered to me all of the aspects of my dream job. I still have my mini vision board from when I was applying and I was amazed to see every single thing that I put on it had manifested (down to my salary and title–which are different from when I first started)!

I hope that this post is helpful to you. If you have used the law of attraction to manifest your dream job, share your experience below!
