How to Use Affirmations to Manifest Your Desires
Affirmations are one of my favorite ways to use the law of attraction to manifest things into my life. This post will give you step by step instructions to use affirmations the right way to effectively raise your vibration and become a magnet for the things you want!
What are affirmations?
An affirmation is:
- A positive statement
- Written in the present tense
- A description of how you will feel when your dream has manifested
How do you write an affirmation?
First, take a few minutes to think about something you want. This could be a specific item, person, or situation. Imagine that this desire is now part of your reality and focus on how you feel now that you have the thing that you have been wanting.
Now that you have gotten into the feeling place of having what you want, describe that feeling and those situations in detail. You can use as much detail as you want to write your affirmation as you imagine it.
For example, if your goal is to lose weight, you might write the following statements:
I love how my body feels! It’s nice to have so much energy and I love being active. It’s so fun to go shopping for clothes and to wear the outfits that I love. I feel strong and confident in my body. I enjoy eating foods that make me feel good.

Focus on one affirmation or choose several to describe your desire
You can either focus on one specific affirmation or you can use several statements to describe your desire. Use whichever format resonates more strongly with you.
If you are focused on a particular feeling, you might find it useful to concentrate on a specific statement that encompasses your desire.
For example, if your goal is to increase your self esteem, you might write one statement like “I love myself”.
Or, you might find it helpful to provide more context for how you will feel when you have a strong and healthy self esteem. In that case, you might write several statements:
- I love myself.
- I feel good about who I am.
- I am proud of what I have accomplished in my life.
- I am excited about what I will do next in my life.
- I act in accordance with my values and beliefs.
Why do affirmations work?
Affirmations work by allowing you to get into the “feeling place” of what you want, so that your vibration becomes a match for your dream. Affirmations also help reset your subconscious mind.
Continuing the example above, if you write “I act in accordance with my values and beliefs”, you will be more conscious about whether your actions are in fact in alignment with your values and beliefs.
By being specific about what you want, you will bring more awareness to your actions around this desire. As you begin to act in accordance with your affirmations, you bring your vibration closer to the vibration of your desire. As your vibration begins to match your desire, your desire is realized.
How do you use affirmations?
There are just three steps to using affirmations effectively:
- First, identify what you want with specificity
- Second, get into the feeling place of how you will feel when your desire has manifested
- Third, use affirmations to describe how you feel, as though your desire has already manifested
That’s it!
You can continue to use affirmations for the same desire every day, or just do them when you feel like it.
Remember, the most important thing is not writing the affirmations, but instead it’s to get to the feeling place of having what you want.
Affirmations can be a really helpful tool to facilitate getting to the feeling place, as they can help refine your desire and rewrite your subconscious mind so that you begin to alter your vibration.
What not to do when writing affirmations
While affirmations are pretty straightforward, there are a few things you will want to avoid to keep your intent and vibration high.
So, when you’re writing affirmations, do NOT:
- Include any negative statements (for example, “I’m so happy I’m not unemployed anymore”)
- Write as though the desire is still in the future (“I will be so happy once I get a new job”)
- Write from a place of fear, negativity, or unhappiness—you need to get to the place of feeling as happy as you will be once your desire has manifested
If you do any of these things, you will not be aligned with the vibration of your desire and you will not make any progress towards the manifestation of your desire.
The secret reason why your affirmations aren’t working yet
Are you reading this and thinking, I’ve done all of this, but my desire still hasn’t manifested! What gives?
The biggest reason why your desire hasn’t yet manifested is because you are still focused on the lack of having it.
For example, if your goal is to be wealthy, but you are anxious because you do not have enough money, you will continue to feel the reality of “not having enough.” You have to find the feeling place of being wealthy (even if you’re not!) and maintain this feeling place for your desire to manifest.
Affirmations can be a great way to get to the feeling place of your desire and thus help it manifest faster.
If you’re having trouble maintaining the “feeling place” of your desire in between writing affirmations, consider incorporating meditation into your life. Meditation is great because it helps you release your focus on particular thoughts and as you quiet your mind, you automatically raise your vibration.

This is great! I’m going to start reciting affirmations every morning when I wake up. I just need to write mine. 🙂
